4> BOXING DAY IN RANGIORA BEACHES WELL PATRONISED Although overcast, the weather in Rangiora on Boxing Day was not cold and picnics were the chief attraction for residents. There was a steady stream of motor-cars through the town early in the morning the little activity until the parties returned in the evening. , , . Waikuku and other beaches m the district were well patronised and sheltered spots in the Ashley riverbed were also sought out by picnickers. There were no organised bowling or tennis tournaments in Rangiora, but there was play on most of the sports areas. A dance was held at Waikuku beach in the evening. Decorations Interfered With Young pine trees placed in boxes of soil on the footpath in High street as part of the festivity week decorations in Rangiora were strewn along the gutters by vandals during the holiday period. The boxes were overturned and the street made generally untidy. Personal The Rev. T. Coatsworth and Mrs Coatsworth will leave Rangiora to-day to spend a fortnight’s holiday in Dunedin. Regent Theatre A great human interest story, rich with humour, and full of emotion, “The Country Doctor,” will be presented tonight and to-morrow afternoon and evening at the Regent Theatre, Rangiora. The famous Dionne quintuplets are featured in the picture and the large cast is headed by Jean Hersholt, June Lang and Slim Summerville. Seats may be reserved at Watson’s, telephone 202. KAIKOURA NEWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE The fortnightly meeting of the Lbyal Heart of Oak Lodge, No. 6684 M.U., I O O F., was presided over by the N.u. (Bro S. V. Kerr). Sick pay, amounting to £ll 13s 4d, was passed for payment. CHRISTMAS CAROLS AT PREBBLETON According to their usual custom, the Prebbleton brass band travelled round the district on Christmas Eve, playing hymns and Christmas carols. Generous support was given the band funds by those visited. . , _ , Concert to Help School Funds A succesful concert was held m the public hall in aid of the Prebbleton School funds, when the programme included the following items;— Pianoforte duets. Misses Doreen and Vonnie Smith; vocal solos, Mrs Sisson; operatic and tap dances, Miss Vonnie Smith; vodelling numbers, Mr P. McGuire; character and tap dances. Miss Joyce Laing; ballet dances, members of the Fleming Academy of Dancing.
