* OPENING OF SEASON HOME GOOD RACING AT MONICA PARK The first broadsiding meeting of this season was held at Monica Park on Saturday evening. There was a good attendance of spectators, and they saw some excellent finishes. There were two visiting Australian riders—W. Molhuish (Newcastle) and R. Duggan IWoollahra). but both of these gave rather disappointing displays. It was announced that they were not used to the same-sized track as at Monica Park. Results:— Roscoe Handicap, Open (four laps, £11) First heat: W. Dumpleton (2sec) 1, H. Gates (ssec) 2, W. Melhuish (scr) 3. Time, Imin 23 2-3 see. This was won easily. W. Thomas pulled out early in the race. Second heat: R. Duggan (scr) 1, W. Ferguson (Usee) 2. G. Ferguson (Bsee) 3. Time, Jmin 34 l-sscc. This was also won easily. Third heat: S. Rhodes (2sec) 1, M. Rush (7see) 2, T. Herbert (Osec) 3. Time, Imin 31 2-ssoc. The second rider was 10 yards behind at the end of a very good race. Rhodes overstock Rush at the lasi bend. Fourth heat; L. Entwhistle (B.secl 1, G. Kerr (7sec) 2. Time, Imin 39 4-ssee. Entwhistle was the only finisher. First semi-final; W. Ferguson 1, Dumpleton 2. Time. Imin 35sec. One of the best races. There was less than a length between the first and second riders. The third was a lap behind at the finish. Second semifinal: Rhodes 1. Rush 2, Kerr 3. Time. Imin 32 2-ssec. Rhodes took the lead after one and a half laps, and kept in front, to win by GO yards. Final; Rhodes 1, W. Ferguson 2, Dumpleton 3. Time, Imin 28 3-ssec. Tire winner took the lead at the beginning of the last lap, and held it. to win by about 50 yards. Three other machines followed comparatively closely. Two-lap Dasli (rolling start), W. Philp v. T. Herbert—Herbert 1, Philp 2. Time, 45 3-ssec. This was a good dash, even until the finish, when there was less than 10 yards separating the riders. Experts' Points Race (four laps, rolling start; £lß)—Rhodes 1. Melhuish 2. Time, Imin 21 4-ssec. An exceptionally fast race between ihe Christchurch man and Die two Australians. Rhodes won very easily and was loudly applauded. ' . Christmas Scratch Race (three laps, rolimg start; nsj—First heat: A. Lamport 1. Philp 2. Time, imin 9 2-sscc.
