OFFICIAL FORECASTS (THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, December 25. The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., and dealing with the 24 hours following the lime of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate north-west-terly winds prevailing, and freshening somewhat. A change to south-westerlies setting in during Saturday morning. Weather rather changeable, but mainly cloudy to overcast, and at times misty, with intermittent rain. Temperatures becoming cooler. Temperatures becoming cooler. A depression was crossing the Dominion today and a secondary is following it across the Tasman Sea. An anticyclone is moving on to southeastern Australia. Winds—North to north-west, shortly tending more westerly and a change to south-west extending over the South Island to-morrow; strong about Cook Strait; elsewhere mainly moderate, but increasing at times. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough in the Cook Strait area and becoming rough about Foveaux Strait: elsewhere slight to moderate, but rising on the West Coast of the South Island. Eastern Tasman—Variable winds, with moderate north-east to north-west prevailing: but a change soon to freshening south-westerlies. Seas rough in the southern portion; elsewhere moderate to rather rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch on Thursday was overcast and warm, with a strong easterly wind The maximum temperature was 61.1 degrees. Rain began to fall late on Thursday night, but after a heavy fall yesterday was warm, but with an overcast sky and a humid atmosphere. The maximum temperature was 74.7 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the weather was warm and cloudy, the temperature being 63 degrees. There was a breeze from the south-west. The barometer, after rising, was steady at 29.85 inches. Meteorological observations taken at the Christenurch Magnetic Observatory on December 24; 9.30 a.m. 3 p.m.

Steady rain had fallen during the night and early yesterday morning; but the weather cleared about 10 a.m. and the sun shone during the afternoon. The barometer was steady at 30.00 inches. Wellington—The weather on Thursday was warm and overcast, with little wind. On Christmas Day the sky was overcast, and there was continuous light rain until about 3.30 p.m. A strong north-westerly wind blew, and the weather was misty foggy for most of the day. The maximum temperature was 62.9 degrees. Dunedin—The weather on Thursday was overcast for the most part, and at night heavy rain fell for several hours.
