M. Brown and Company, the lowest of five submitted for the formation of the flying field at the municipal aerodrome, Harewood. The acceptance of the tender is subject to the firm's financial sureties being found satisfactory. It is expected that the work will be completed in 13 months. The tenders were as follows: £ s. d.

C. M. Brown and Company, Ltd. -• 13,850 0 0 Thomas Phcloung . . 15,698.6 8 B. Moore and Sons, Ltd. •■ 16,536 4 « Ryan Bios. . . 19,685 0 0 British Pavements (Canterbury), Ltd. 19,877 0 0 Preliminary Details According to a report presented by the finance committee, arrangements are proceeding satisfactorily to acquire the airport site. The report said that one of the property owners concerned had offered to transfer to the council his land for £362 10s. The property was in the south-west corner of the proposed air port site, and consisted of 25 acres. This offer was reasonably near the valuation fixed on the property by Mr Albert Freeman. The committee had, therefore, accepted the offer. Approval of its action was given by the council. The report added that the committee was, as far as possible, arranging not to interfere unduly with the existing leases of the properties owned by the Waimakariri River Trust, and satisfactory negotiations were proceeding on these lines. On the committee's recommendation, it was agreed that, the total cost—covering transfer of land, compensation to any persons concerned, and the laying out of the grounds, fencing, etc.—shoujd be met by a transfer from the Municipal Electricity Department's funds.
