Dr. and Mrs J. F. Duncan and Miss Relda Duncan (Rossall street), who have been visiting Britain, are due to arrive in Wellington on Boxing Day, and are expected in Christchurch on Sunday. Mrs Robert Stout (Invercargill) is paying a short visit to her mother, Mrs W. Gunn (Aikman's road). On Thursday her husband will join her, and they will leave that night for Rotorua. ,

The resignation of Miss E. M. Goodjohn from the staff of the Christchurch Girls' High School was received yesterday by the Canterbury College Council. Miss Eula Moore, of the staff of the New Brighton District High School, who has accepted an Australian exchange position for 1937, will leave for Melbourne in January.

Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Aston and her two children left yesterday to spend the holidays at Stewart Island.

Miss Noeleen Chapman (Page's road) will leave to-night to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays with relatives in Palmerston North.

Miss Miriam A. Pearce (St. Albans) left Wellington by the Awatea yesterday for Australia, where she wil! make a tour of New South Wales and Victoria.

Mr and Mrs Eric Cleland arc spending the Christmas holidays in Nelson and at the Marlborough Sounds.

Mr and Mrs Frank Graham (Heaton street) left last night for Wellington. From there they will motor to Tauranga, where they will spend the holidays. Miss Jean Batten and Mrs F. H. Batten returned to New Zealand from Sydney by the Awatea, which arrived at Wellington yesterday morning.

Miss Pilbrow (Webb street) will be the guest of her sister, Mrs John Dines, Fairlie, for Christmas. Miss Valerie Lawn left last night for a tour of the North Island.

Owing to the necessary precautions at present required by the Health Department, it is deemed advisable to abandon the usual gathering of children for the Christmas tree at St. George's Hospital on Christmas Day.
