POWER BOARD

ASH3URTON

The Ashburton Power Board met yesterday, when there were present: Messrs E. F. Nicoll (chairman), J. Carr, W. G. Gallagher, W. H. Woods. W H. Rundle, J. W. M. Dart. H. J. Crothers, H. C. Barton. H. Morris, W. Bryant, R. J. Mulligan, and J. Lambie. The financial statement showed that the revenue for last month totalled £4272 2s Id, an increase of £240 lis 2d on the revenue for November. 1935.

The report of the engineer-secretary (Mr H. G. Kemp) said that 63 replacements of defective bluegum poles were made during the month. The running engineer (Mr A. T. Saunders) reported that 650,000 units were supplied b*' Lake Coleridge, and 1637 by the board's Diesel plant during the month. The workshop was being kept particularly busy with general work. A great deal of welding work was being done, particularly

wheel conversions from solid to pneumatic for farm implements. The report of the inspector (Mr W. G Welsh) said that the wiring department had had a record month, the work done far exceeding any it naa had to do in the past. The connected load was greater than it had been since the days when the district was being wired under the block lender system. For the last eight months 158 consumers and 68 ranges had bean added to the supply, compared with 156 consumers and 54 ranges for the year ended March 31 last. During the month there were connected 23 ranges. 32 motors, 50 consumers, and 16 radio sets Mr Dart asked if anything had been done to eliminate interference witn radio reception in the Methven townMr Kemp replied that the mattar would receive attent-nn.
