ADVICE FROr.I AUDIT OFFICE Mr F. J. E. Smallbone has vacated his seat on the Ashburton Borough Council and the Domain Board and a byelection will be held to All the vacancy. ... . After a discussion in committee at the borough council meeting last evening the Mayo-" (Mr W. H. Woods) reported that a ietter had been received from the Audit Office indicating that in consequence of Mr Smallbone having supplied the Domain Board with goods slightly in excess of the amount allowed by law he would have to vacate his seat at the council table. It was decided to write to Mr-Small-bone expressing regret at the circumstances which caused his retirement from the council, and thanking him for his services. It is understood that Mr Smallbone •will not be eligible to stand for a seat on the council until the next general election.
