FARMERS' UNION

MEETING AT LOWCLIFFE

A meeting of the Lowcliffe branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in the school recently, with Mr D. M. Bruce presiding. An address was given by Mr G. K. McPherson, inspector of agriculture for Mid-Canterbury, on various aspects and results of his work in conducting field trials. It is hoped that Mr McPherson will be able to prepare trials in the Lowcliffe district during the coming year. Farming Conditions

The country is looking exceptionally well at present, the plentiful supply of moisture giving an abundance of feed. Ewes and lambs are doing well and already several good drafts of lambs have gone to the freezing works. As elsewhere, shearing has been retarded by the weather, and several farmers will not have their sheep shorn before Christmas. Some oat crops have been reaped and others are showing signs of ripening.
