NAVY LEAGUE ESSAY COMPETITION
RESULTS ANNOUNCED The results of the Navy League and ; Victoria League essay competitions for ’ 1936 are announced as follows: • Class A (over 15): Subject, “Japan ■ and its Increasing Power in the Pad- ■ fic” —First prize (Navy League), Cicely < June Higginson, Girls’ High School, * Timaru; second prize (Victoria ? League), N. R. Morgan, St. Andrew’s * College, Christchurch. Class B (under 15): Subject, “The i Importance of Wireless and Aviation ‘ in the Life of To-day”—First prize . (Victoria League). Lila Hayes, Girl? High School, Timaru; second prize (Navy League), Erica Gardiner, Rangiruru School, Christchurch. Two hundred and forty-six essays were written altogether in secondary j schools. The following schools were represented: Rangi-ruru School, ; Christchurch, Girls’ High School, Ti- j maru, St. Andrew's College, Avonside, , Girls’ High School, Cathedral Gram- ; mar School, and Temuka District High > School. The Girls’ High School. Ti- . maru, will hold the J. J. Dougall Challenge Cup until next competition. Approximately 1697 essays were re- , ceived from primary schools, and 139 certificates have been awarded. The presentation of prizes and certificates will be made by headmasters at th# commencement of next term.
