The Valuation Department advised that it was making an early start with the revaluation of the Malvern county and hoped to have it finished before March 31, next year. It was resolved to have an agreement drawn up whereby the owners of land abutting on the South Malvern Hills road, and the mine owners each agree to contribute towards the cost of upkeep of this road as it is essential for carrying on their business, especially during the winter months. A largely signed petition was received asking the council to have a traffic bridge constructed over the . WaireLa water-race at Greendale, and i this was favourably considered. Inj structions were given to apply for a . £1 for £1 subsidy when making up r the ICJ6-3 1 estimates. It was resolved to strike a general - rate of one half-penny in the pound r on 75 per cent, of the original capital r value, this to include the hospital levy. It was also resolved that the water i, charge rer. run as at present, namely. - £1 for each 100 acres. i The engineer said that further proi tective work in the way of willow log i cribbing had been done in the Selwyn - river below the Waireka water-race ; intake. s About the Selwyn bridge at Coalgate, ■ this bridge was inspected by the dis- : trict engineer who had recom- • mended certain protective measures s and the work will «e carried out by • the Selwyn County Council, which » controls the bridge.
