PILGRIMS’ SEARCH FOR ROOMS
SPACE IN PROVINCIAL COUNCIL BUILDING
ACQUISITION DESIRED AT NOMINAL RENTAL
There is a possibility that the Canterbury Pilgrims’ and Early Settlers’
sociation will be able to secure a room in the Bellamy’s part of the Provincial Council Chamber, at a nominal rental. The association is understood to be negotiating with the Canterbury Provincial Buildings Trust to obtain permission to occupy the room which was formerly refused to it; as the act governing tae buildings will not allow free occupation it is hoped that this difficulty may be overcome by the proposed nominal rental. Mr E. R. Webb, president of the association, refused to make any statement on the progress of the negotiations when he was approached yesterday. A difficulty has been that there has been, until a few days ago, no authority which might be approached by the association. The committee of the trust which deals with the disposal of the buildings has, since the last election, been almost literally extinct, all except two of its members losing their seats in Parliament. However, the committee has now been reformed, and negotiations are now possible.
