Mrs R. Ballantine, who has been acting county clerk for the Halswell County Council for the last six months, w: 3 appointed to the position permanently at a meeting of tne council yesterday. KIRWEE Mrs E. Bishop and Miss Alice Bishop, Ashburton, are visiting Mrs Bishop’s daughter, Mrs A, Roper, Kirwee. Mrs R. W. McMeekan is staying st few days with her mother. Mrs Guthrie. Christchurch. Flying Officer J. P. Selby, R.A.F., having taken a special course in advanced aerial navigation at Andover, England, is now a qualified instrument fly in instructor stationed at Boscombe Down, Wiltshire. LEITHFIELD There was a large attendance at a soci ' gathering held at Leithfield. Competitions were won by Mrs Chivers, Miss Irene Wilson, and 1 * Mr David Palmer. During the evening a handsome tea service was displayed. This was given by Mr Jas. Ashworth’s family, and will be competed for in ai’ of the jubilee reunion funds. SOCIAL EVENING AT LINCOLN A social evening was recently held by members of the Girls’ Basketball Club in honour of Miss Ann Hopley. who for several years captained the A talucn and la now living in Christchurch.
Mr Gordon Perymar for the club, made presentations of rose bowls to Mrs A. Morland and Mrs C. Moody, and a suitcase to Miss Ann Hopley in recognition of their services to the club.
Personal Mr A. J. Lysaght, postmaster at Lincoln, has resumed duty.
