SMALL FISHING BOAT ASHORE

MISHAP NEAR HOKITIKA BAR ITHB HUES* Special Serviced HOKITIKA. June 18. The small fishing boat Tiarl Anani was driven on to the beach a short distance north of the Hokitika bar this afternoon.

The vessel went out on Tuesday and failed to return in the evening. The crew was unable to start the engine, and the boat had, been , almost stationary some miles off the bar until to-

day, when an attempt was made to make the bar with sails, but heavy seas carried her on to the beach. Members of the crew, who had had very little food, landed safely, and the boat is not damaged. A launch from Greymouth endeavoured to give assistance yesterday and this morning, but the seas forced it back to Greymouth. Mr M. Moon, who was in charge, mid that the engine could not be stalled because of a broken starting handle This is the vessel’s third accident recently. Some months ago she went ashore at Greymouth. and last month a member of her crew Was lost overboard at the Hokitika bar.

Special steps are being taken to enforce the 30 miles an hour speed limit, in London.
