MOUNT COOK-BALL HUTT ROAD

TO TBS EDITOB OF THE FBEBS. Sir, —As a recent visitor to the Hermitage, Mount Cook, I should like to enquire if the road from the Hermitage to the Ball Hutt is a private one belonging to the Mount Cook Tourist Company, as I was led to believe. I wanted to go to the Ball Hut in my own car, but the people at the Hermitage said I could not, as it was a private road, and I would also have to pay 12s 6d toll for crossing the Hooker bridge. Further, the Mount Cook Company did not want private cars on the Ball Hut road. —Yours, etc TOURIST.

June 12. 1936. [This letter was referred to Mr N. S. Coxhead, branch manager at Christchurch for the Mount Cook Tourist Company, who said that he had no comment to make on a letter written by an anonymous correspondent.]
