Government A late sale of New Zealand Government, 4 per cent, stock, due 1940, on Wednesday, was reported at £lO2 12; 6d—the 1955 stock yesterday changed hands at £lO4. A late slae of Quill Morris (1936), Ltd., 4 per cent, debentures, due 1946, on Wednesday, was reported at £BO. and a parcel of Lyttelton Harbour Board 4i per cent, debentures, due March 31, 1951, changed hands at £lO6. Commercial Bank of Australia were firm at 19s 3d, market closing Id either way. Bank of Australasia were firmer on buyers' offers £ll 15s. Sellers of Bank of New Zealand reduced their limits to 425, buyers at 40s. Goldsbrough. Morts were active at 31s 8d and 31s 9d. market closing 31s 7d buyers, 31s 9d sellers. Stockton Coal ordinary had dealings at 2s. New Zealand Breweries were easier with sellers at 51s 3d. buyers at 50s 9d, Miscellaneous Australian Glass, cum dividend, were weaker with sellers at 91s. Broken Hill Proprietary declined to dealings at 70s 3d and 70s Id—the contributing relapsed to 48s 9d. 48s 3d, and 48s 4d. New Zealand Newspapers were easier at 41s. Mining A late sale of Alexander Mines (15s paid) on Wednesday was reported at 14s 4d, and buyers yesterday offered that price, sellers at 16s. Big Rivers moved up to 2s 3d and closed with buyers at 2s 3£d, sellers at 2s 4d. King Solomons were steady at Is 10£ d. Mount Lyells, cum dividend, were firmer with dealings at 24s fid and 24s 7d, and further buyers at 24s 6d. An odd parcel of Mount Morgans changed hands at 15s fid; closing prices were 14s 9d, buyers, 14s lid sellers. Unlisted Stocks Selfrldges (Australasia), old. were firmer at 28s. Shillings, 10s paid, were firmer at prices ranging from 14s fid to 15s, market closing 14s 9d buyers, 15s sellers. Woolworths were easier at £5 14s.

GOOD TURNOVER RECORDED BANK OF NEW ZEALAND WEAKER Turnover was well maintained on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, the main interest being still in Australian industrials. A number of these issues were weaker. Sellers of Bank of New Zealand, in which there were no dealings, reduced their limits 6d to £2 2s, and buyers remained at the same reduced price as on Wednesday £2.

The following regulations under the Agriculture (Emergency Powers) Act, to ensure the proper feeding and maturity of calves sold or offered for sale for slaughter for human consumption, have been gazetted, and come into force immediately. They provide that no person shall sell or offer for sale any calf unless it be properly and sufficiently fed daily from birth, and have been fed not earlier than four hours before the time of its actual removal from his premises In pursuance of a sale or contract or intended contract for sale. The onus of proof that the regulations have been properly carried out will lie on the defendant. No person shall purchase, drive, or convey any calf which appears to be unfit through weakness or immaturity to be driven or conveyed to a place of slaughter.
