BUFFET DINNER
It is difficult to devise new ways for raising money for deserving causes, but thrSe Christchurch hostesses broke new ground last night, when they very successfully combined pleasure and profit in satisfactory ratio. Mrs George Francis will be in charge of the sweets stall at the forthcoming St. George’s market, and Mrs Frank Reid and Mrs Lionel Cooke will be her assistants. As a preliminary money-making scheme, they arranged a buffet dinner party, which was held at Mrs Francis’ home in Innes road. The dinner-table was gay with bowls of mixed flowerb and the reception rooms were decorated with styiosis and chrysanthemums. The guests were Messrs George Francis, Lionel Cooke, Frank Reid, Mr and Mrs Guy Cotterill, Mr and Mrs Gordon McCredie, Mr and Mrs A. Stuart Bower, Mr and Mrs F. G. Helmore, Hamish Wilson, and Charles Rattray. “HOT DOG*’ PARTY At Jellicoe Hall last night, a very successful dance was held in aid of the forthcoming “Modern Times'’ Plunket cabaret. Buchanan, Joan Gard’ner, Patricia Powrie, Helen Thomson, Janet Stevenson, Nora Firth, j Brownie Freeman, Anne Morrow, and I Agatha Upham, Captain R. A. Anderson, Messrs Keppel Archer, A. Guild, I. M. Godby, P. Norris, Chas. Rattray, G. Scott, C. J. Ward, and Eric Millton (honorary secretary and treasurer). Music was played by Fritz Seymour’s orchestra, and a hot supper of saveloys and coffee was served. Amongst those present were Mesdames J. G. L.
