WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

BIRTHDAY PARTY The Redcliffs branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union head its second birthday party in the Presbyterian schoolroom, the guests including visitors from the Woodend and Marshland branches of the division. Mrs Roberts (president) welcomed the visitors and posies of flowers were presented to Mrs Colin Mclntosh, president of the North Canterbury provincial executive, Mrs Marks, president of the Marshland branch, Mrs Robinson, president of the Woodend branch, and to Mrs Smyth, retiringpresident of the Redcliffs branch. Mrs Mclntosh spoke of the aims and objects of the Division, and a musical programme was enjoyed. Items were given by Mesdames Hickman, Miss Kilner, Mrs Kerr, Mrs Aiken, Miss Pearce, Misses Kilner and Menzies. Afternoon tea was served and when cutting the cake, Mrs Mclntosh wished the branch many successful years. A display of handwork done by members attracted much attention. A prize for the most points gained in competitions during the year was won by Mrs Miles. BELFAST BRANCH Mrs Harris presided at the monthly meeting of the Belfast branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Three new members were welcomed. Arrangements were made for holding the fourth birthday party. It was decided to help the Red Cross Society and the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association every quarter alternately. An interesting talk was given by Nurse L. Donohue, of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association. A competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs Morton 1, and Miss Crawford 2. Hostesses were Mesdames Maginness, Martin, and North. DIAMOND HARBOUR-PURAU The monthly meeting of the Diamond Harbour-Purau branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the home of Mrs F. Gardiner, Purau Station, Mrs Wood presiding over a good attendance. One new member was welcomed. An interesting talk on Plunket work was given by Mrs B. H. Gilmour, president of the Lyttelton Plunket Society. Results of competitions were: Article made from a flour-bag, Mrs Winny 1, Mrs Godfrey 2; best eggless fruit cake, Mrs F. Gardiner 1, Mrs Manson 2; floating-bowl of flowers. Miss Isherwood 1, Mrs Manson 2. Hostesses were Mrs F, Gardiner and Misses R. and D. Gardiner.
