The Dominion Observatory’s weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at S pun, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Mainly moderate, but rather squally northerly to north-west-erly winds at And, changing tonight, however, to west or southwest Weather fine at first, bnt changeable later, and some scattered showers probable, more especially in western and southern parts. The following is the Dominion foreCaSt Weather fair at first In the eastern districts of the South Wand, and improving on the East Coast of the North Island; otherwise changeable, with scattered showers, especially in western areas. A deep depression still lies to ttie east of the North Island, but its after-effects have been modified by a series of secondary depressions advancing across the South Tasman Sea, one of which Is now moving on to southern New Zealand. An anticyclone covers Anstralla and the north Tasman Sea. Winds—Strong but decreasing, south-westerly north of New Plymouth and Napier; elsewhere northwesterly to westerly, backing shortly again in places to south-westerly: moderate but increasing, especially about Cook Strait and Foveaux Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough between Castlepoint and East Cape, but decreasing; rough also north of Cape Egmont and about Foveaux Strait; elsewhere moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tas-man-Moderate to strong west to south-west winds, with rather rough to rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER Although there was sunshine for several hours, the temperature did not exceed 48 degrees in the city yesterday. There was a cold north-east wind all day. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—Yesterday there was a fresh to strong south-west wind, with changeable weather. Light showers fell during the morning, but the sun shone in the afternoon. The barometer after rising all day, registered 29.85 inches last evening. Wellington—The weather in the early part of the morning was overcast, but it gradually cleared, and the afternoon was fine and sunny. A light southerly died away to a calm by 1.30 p.m. The maximum temperature was 48.1 degrees. Dunedin—Yesterday the weather was calm, with bright sunshine in the morning, after a severe frost in many parts of the city. The barometer fell sharply in the afternoon to 29.60 inches.
