Wright f . , r— —7- ; v L YOUNG CHRISTCHURCH ; MUSICIAN [ SCHOLARSHIP, AT ROYAL ► ACADEMY OF MUSIC Miss Jean McLeod, a young Christ- . church musician, has received advice . that she has been awarded a two-yeai • scholarship, valued at £l9O a year tenable at the Royal Academy oi | Music, London. Miss McLeod will leave, lor London in July to take up the scholarship, which is the first of its kind to have been awarded in Now Zealand. Although only 19 years of age, Mist -McLeod has had a distinguished musical career. She gained her A.T.C.L. when she was 14 years of age and ,her L.TiC,L. when she was 15, In .1932 and 1933 she won the pianoforte championship, at. the Christchurch competitions and also the Christchurch Competitions Society’s scholarship, valued at seven guineas. In 1935 Miss McLeod gained her L.R.S.M. with 186 points out of a possible 200. She also passed the harmony examination with distinction and was granted a fellowship of the Trinity College of Music, London. Miss McLeod is-a student of Miss Irene Lassen, L.T.C.L. . I Y.W.C.A.
