WOMEN DELEGATES | WELCOMED -I ■ TEA AT EAST BELT WESLEY/ , CHURCH Women delegates to the Mfethodist Oonference and the wives of minis- 1 ters who are>attending from all partsof New Zeeland, were the guests yesterday of members of the Christchurch Women’s Missionary Auxiliary at tea in the East Belt Wesley Church. Among the guests was Mrs E, P. Blamires, the wife of the newly-appointed president] Of the conference. Nearly 100 members were present. The guests were’ welcomed by the president of the auxiliary. Mrs Frank Thompson. Mrs Thompson said that when the conference came to Christchurch it brought work and worries, but it also brought privileges, one of the greatest of Which was that of meeting the women delegates and.the wives of the ministers. The conference came to the city only .once in four years, but it did a great deal to foster good-fellow-ship among the women of the Methodist Church. Mrs Thompson extended a special welcome to Mrs Blamires. Those who were associated with, the Methodist Church in Christchurch knew something of the work Mrs Bto-j xpires had done, and they knew that she was admirably fitted for her new position. Sister May Barnett, a missionary from the Solomon Islands, was also welcomed by Mrs Thompson. Mrs Blamires. who was presented with a bouquet fey Mrs G. Bowron, a 1 past-president ot the auxiliary, said in, reply, that the loyalty and love of the women of the Methodist Church were most impressive. All the societies connected with the church worked - harmoniously together, showing that they were actuated fey the common ideal of J Service -to the community' ! There were rich opportunities and

much work remained to be done, but before it could be done properly there would have to be cultivated to the utmost a devotional spirit. , - Sister- Barnett also replied. MUSICAL FESTIVAL CHOIR OF ISO VOICES An excellent ancl varied programme has been arranged for the musical festival of toe Methodist Conferences which is always an event of the annual assembly of the church. It is tb be held in the Conference Church, Durham street, to-morrow at 8 p.m. A united choir of more than 150 voices drawn from toe choirs of the Methodist churches of toe city and suburbs* will sing choral numbers, Including choruses from Mendelssohn’s “Hymn of Praise.” Variety will be introduced into the programme by the assistance of several leading artists of Christchurch, The choir will be under the baton of Mr G. James, and Mr W. Melville Lawry will be organist.
