WAIMAIRI PROGRESS LEAGUE
SITE FOB PUBLIC HALL DISCUSSED
Mr P. E. L. Broad presided at the monthly meeting of the Waimairi Beach Progress League, held last evening. Crs. W; Chapman and "W. P. Spencer, of the Waimairi County Council, and'Mr G. E. Franklin (North Beadh Progress League) were present. ' * ‘ Mr C. Morgan Williams, M.P., advised that he would be pleased to •co-operate with the Hon. D. G. Sullivan in endeavouring ,to secure legislation to permit the Selwyn Plantation Board to grant a section of the board’s reserve to' the Waimairi County Council*for the building of a public hall. .Cr. W. Chapman assured the meeting that his council would whole-heartedly support the i proposed’ legislation. The secretary was instructed to send a letter to the New Brighton Borough Council asking it. to have the council’s side of Beach road cleared Of lupins and overgrowth. *Cr. Spencer said that- endeavours should be made to have Reeves road to-Marshland road and Beach road declared a secondary highway. , It was decided’ to ask the Waimairi County Council to make the application to the Main Highways Board.' In reply to the league’s request that the Waimairi County Council allow the formation of a Domains Board to have control over the council’s reserves at the beach, - Cr. Chapman, chairman of the council, said that it would not be possible to chave a properly constituted domains board. He' suggested', that a committee be formed to work In conjunction with the Waimairi County Council. Messrs P. E. L. Broad, S,, J. Aston, J. Taylor, T., Bond, C. Brown, 8., Johnson,’. J. Mdhdy, were appointed the committee. About a suggested conference between the New Brighton Borough Council; Waimairi County Council, and representatives of the North--Beacharid Widxhairi.
