INVESTIGATION BY MINISTER

r-4 ' . DOMINION’S TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

CO-OPERATION BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS

(PRISS ISSOCIATIOR TRLBORJIII .1 WELLINGTON, February 13. It is the aim of the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to see - ' in practical working a." greater co-operation-than has existed in the past between the State departments which deal with the sporting and scenic attractions of the Dominion. Mr Parry said to-day that he had been pleased to feel in his travels north that the desire of tiie Government for this co-operation was being closely followed by the officers, to the better working of their departments. “You have only to visit some of our tourist districts to find now important they are,” Mr Parry said, “Viewed by ( New Zealanders and overseas people from all standpoints—scenic, fishing, game hunting, and shooting, pleasure seeking and Health seeking—there is a full quota of enjoyment offering to all. Spend 10 minutes in thermal territory in any part you visit, and-you will discover a fine spirit of cheerfulness and enjoyment permeating all other things. It is good to see the helpfulness extended so kindly and freely to visitors by the Rotorua people.” Mr Parry said that from his knowledge of the South Island he expected to find the same happy conditions existing , at that island’s resorts. “I intended that my investigating visit to northei'n resorts, with which the Department of Internal Affairs has so much to do, should be followed quickly by a similar visit to the South Island," the Minister said. “There are a lot of administrative matters down there that executive Officers of the Internal Affairs Department wish me to look Into. I have found that in a personal visit much can be done in rectifying a matter. Discussion with all interests on the spot helps greatly. It is my wish always to go into matters causing irritating difficulties with all concerned, to see and understand both sides. That, in my judgment, is the only way of reaching a fair and equitable decision. I will make my investigating visit to the South Island as soon as my v/vk in Wellington will enable me to do so. “The unusual and wonderful attractions of both islands concern not only us but visitors from other countries,” the Minister said. “In that way the xNorth Island and the South Island must be considered in planning any development, and so I want to go south as soon as I can to see things there.”
