GROCERY FIRM FINED
BREACH OF TRADING COUPONS ACT (PBESS ASSOCIATION TBLEOEAM.) WELLINGTON, December 13. The establishment of a competition in which the prize was a motor-car which could be competed for only on the production of a label off a jacket of tea was the subject of a reserved judgment delivered by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The magistrate held that such a packet was a trading coupon within the meaning of the Trading Coupons Act, 1931, and convicted the defendant, the Self Help Co-operative, Ltd., of redeeming a trading coupon issued by it otherwise than in conformity with the act. Tha magistrate said that the coupon was redeemed by the acceptance of an entry and not by delivery of the motorcar to the winner. The defendant was fined £3 and ordered to pay costs amounting to £3 13s.
