CHRIST’S COLLEGE SCORES WELL GOOD LEAD OVER OTAGO HIGH SCHOOL [THE PBBSS Special Serrice.] DUNEDIN, December 13. Compiling the large score of 320 for four wickets, Christ’s College already has a lead of 214 on the first innings in its annual match against Otago Boys’ High School. The game was commenced ori the school ground today on a good wicket; but a light rain which fell during the greater part of the day handicapped the bowlers. High School, who batted first, suffered severe early losses, but recovered to make 106, bright features of the innings being the aggressive methods of Aldred and McGregor. From the start of their innings the Christ’s College batsmen showed almost a complete mastery of the bowling. Somerville and Webb, who paved the way for the visitors’ exceptional performance, both played with the assurance of veterans, scoring by beautifully-timed shots all round the wicket. The feature of the innings, however, was the century by Fleetwood, who gave a fine display of correct batting, marked by the perfection of his off and cover drives. There were three notable partnerships, Somerville and Armitage scoring 84 for the first wicket, Webb and Fleetwood 92 for the third, and Fleetwood and Byrne 91 (unfinished) for the fifth. The visitors’ 320 runs were made in three and a half hours; but they gained some assistance from the limited size of the ground, on which two runs are awarded for a boundary and four for a hit over the boundary. The match will be concluded tomorrow:— Scores:— OTAGO BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL First Innings Colvin, c Webb, b Ollivier .. 0 Hamilton, c Webb, b Ollivier .. 1 Edwards, b Ollivier .. ..5 Aldred, c Jennings, b Armitage 31 Scott, c Webb, b Rutherford .. 6 Manson, b Rutherford .. .. 7 Hunt, c Somerville, b McCracken 17 Gregory, b McCracken ' .. 0 McGregor, b Adams .. ..37 Morrison, not out ... ~ 1 Grant, Ibw, b Ollivier ~ .. 1 Extras .. .. ..2 Total .. 108 Bowling Analysis
