ELECTRIC POWER BOARDS

GROWTH OF INDUSTRY (PBBS« 4lI8OCU?I0B TBLSBBi.U.I WELLINGTON, September 13. The Electric Power Boards' conference was opened by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes), who commented on the growth of the electrical industry. He stated that the capital invested amounted to £32,821,288, belonging partly to the Government and partly to local bodies. Working expenses totalled £2,047,641, and the total annual cost was £4,123,989. The retail revenue amounted to £4,577,999, and the profit for the year was £454,010. Mr Forbes said that he did not think that anybody could complain that that was excessive. He was sure that if the industry had been in the hands of a private undertaking, a larger profit would have been expected. The output from Government stations increased by 6 per cent, during the year. He regretted that there had been a certain amount of dissension in town and country, but he felt confident that this would be overcome. Mr M. J. Savage, leader of the Opposition, assured the conference of his support.
