KAIKOURA NEWS
WOMEN'S HOCKEY The following players have been selected to represent the Kaikoura Club against the Beaver Club (Blenheim), at Takahanga Domain, this afternoon: Misses B. Wallace, L. Adair, L. Lane, M Trudgeon, M. Cormack, R. Hendry, E. Wareham, N. P\uck. K. Ferry, M. Wareham and M. Osmond. Personal Mrs R. Sutherland, of Montreal street, Christchurch, is spending a holiday with Mrs S. Pluck, Kaikoura. Bobby Calves A fair amount of activity in the export of bobby calves from the district has been taking place. More than 300 head have been forwarded to Canterbury and from now on it is anticipated that 300 head a week will be exported. The calves are taken by motor-lorry to Parnassus and from there by rail to the works at Christchurch. Fishing Industry A lean period has been experienced by Kaikoura fishermen over the last six weeks, the shortage of groper, combined with unfavourable weather, preventing the fleet from operating. The catches made have consisted mainly of ling, an odd case of groper only being caught. Crayfishing has proved remunerative, but this has also been considerably restricted by the weather.
