The following is the Dominion Observatory's special weather forecast lor Canterbury:— JLlgfat to moderate sonth to east winds. Weather mainly fair to tortfhie, but an isolated shower or two . likely to-night on the coast. Cold , temperatures with sharp inland frosts. Seas, a moderate southerly swell..

An anticyclone now completely covers the New Zealand area, while a depression appears to be forming over the north-west Tasznan Sea.'

Winds—Easterly north of Kawhia and East Cape, elsewhere southerly. Fresh on parts of the east coast between Cook Strait and East Cape, but decreasing, and otherwise moderate. Later winds freshening in the far north. -

Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough on parts bf the east coast between Cape Campbell and East Cape, but moderating. Elsewhere smooth to moderate.

Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate east to north-east winds and moderate seas, later wind and sea increasing in the northern portion.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The southerly wind which blew in the morning yesterday changed to the east at mid-day and the afternoon was fine and sunny.

At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and there was no wind. The temperatnre was 40 degrees. The barometer was steady at 30.15.

The barometer was steady at 30.05 inches after midday. Wellington—The weather was for the most part clear, but with, passing clouds and an occasional very light shower. A southerly wind was fresh in the morning, but moderated during the afternoon. The minimum temperature during Thursday night was 41 degrees. The maxin*"sn yesterday was 48.5 degrees. Dunedin—The weather was fine and pleasant, with sunshine and passing cloud. A light south-west breeze prevailed, and the maximum temperature was 52 degrees.
