Seven years ago the number of cases of canned goods produced in Great Britain was 2,500,000. Today the total had grown to 100.000.000 through the application of laboratory research, said Dr. E. Marsden in an address at Wellington this v/eek. In South Africa, where they had availed themselves of research, the output of canned fruits had grown from 200.000 cases before the war to 6,000,000 cases last year.
The return of confidence which has been the subject of cheerful reports from members of the retail trade in Auckland is reflected in most of the secondary Industries, According to manufacturers more people are employed in factories than was the case a year ago, and some workshops are working at high pressure in Auckland.
