NAZI FARMERS' CALENDAR
* GERMAN ROMAN CATHOLICS INCENSED CHRISTIAN FESTIVALS RENAMED (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —BY ELKCTRIC TELEGRAPH —COPYRIGHT.) (Received February 18, 10.15 p.m.) BERLIN, February 18. The Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Darre, has published a new calendar "for every German farmer." Roman Catholics are incensed, arid regard it as the crowning Nazi insult, for it omits all the names of the Saints' Days, and explains that holidays will be incidents in German history. For example, Good Friday is in memory of 4500 Saxons murdered by Charlemagne the Butcher; Easter is the Easter Feast of the Sunrise; Assumption Day is Thor's descent after the Hammer; Ash Wednesday is Ash Wotan's Day; December 25 is the coming of Yuletide and the appearance of the Goat Star on Valhalla's roof. BIG ADVERSE TRADE BALANCE GERMANY'S BAD POSITION LOW LEVEL OF WAGES LONDON, February 17. German imports for January in-, creased by £400,000 and her exports declined by £4,500,000 as compared with December. Exports were the lowest for any month' since the Nazis took over control, and the adverse trade balance the worst for the last seven years. January generally brings an increase in the adverse balance, but the size of this one has shocked the commercial community. Mr Walter Citrine, president ot the International Federation ot Trade Unions, speaking at Manchester declared that one-third of the German workers are earning less than 15s a week, another third less than £1 4s 6d, one-fifth between £1 4s 6d and £1 12s Bd, and less than 1 per cent, are receiving £2. Wages in Germany are now the lowest for half a century, he declared.
