TWENTY-THREE ANIMALS KIILED

LIGHTNING RUNS ALONG FENCE SYDNEY, January 23. Lightning struck a tree on a farm near Grafton, and, running along a wire fence attached to the tree, struck dead 21 cows and two horses, which were standing near the fence. The tree was badly shattered, the wood round the auger holes in the fence posts was burned by the passage of Jjie current, and the grass under the feet of the animals was withered and burned.
