DOG REGISTRATION
♦ SLACKNESS OF SOME OWNERS The difficulties experienced each year by officials of the Christchurch City Council in collecting registration fees from some owners of dogs were described in a committee report to the council at it? meeting last night. The by-laws committee had lately found, it necessary to institute proceedings against 15 owners, who were all Convicted and fined, besides having to pay the registration fees. The Dog Registration Act, 1908. provided that any person keeping a dog v of an age greater than six months tor a period of 14 days without registering it. or without registering it from year to year afterwards, was liable to a fine not exceeding £5. The committee had brought this matter before the council in the hope that owners would see that their dogs v;ere registered within a reasonable time after January 1 each year. W cases where the owner could not pay the full registration fee at once, arrangements could be made with the chief city inspector for payment by instalments of one shilling or more until the full registration fee was paid, provided payment was completed within a reasonable period.
