POULTRY KEEPING

# SOUTH ISLAND ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the South Island Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association last week Mr G. H. Bradford, the president, was in the chair and there were present Messrs W. R. H. Johnson and Crs. C. H. Bull, J. Cummings, H. W. Boys, H. A. Pearson, and the secretary, Mr R. Pearce.< The chairman moved a vote of sympathy to Mr J. D. Gobbe and family in their recent bereavement, the motion being carried in silence. A letter from the Christchurch Canary Club held over from th last meeting was again deferred, as no reply had come to hand from the North Island Association relating to their action about the canary exhibitions at North Island shows. On receipt of a reply a special meeting of the council would deal with the question. Replies were received from the Nelson, Blenheim, and Dunedin Young Bird Club that they would support an art union for the 1935 shows. The Kaitangata Club wrote that they were in agreement with everything done at the annual conference. The Gore Club advised that they would support an art union if the prize was increased to £IOO, and it was decided to advise them that at present the amount was not possible. Gore also enquired if the New Zealand championships allotted to them in fancy pigeons could be altered to re:.d "any variety fancy pigeon." The secretary was instructed to advise that the alteration was not possible, and if the championship as worded was of no use to them they could return it to the association, who would again allot it. The South Island Poultry Association wrote stating that at the annual meeting it was decided not to come into the scheme for New Zealand championships. . The newlv-formed Oamaru Canary and Cage Bird Specialist Club applied for affiliation to the South Island Poultry Association. The officers were president, Mr E. Tomkins, and secretary, Mr W. McD. Mcßae, and the membership was 26. The affiliation was granted. The club applied for March 29 for a young bird show, and as this date had already been granted to the Dunedin Young Bird Club, it was decided to write to the Dunedin Club to see if they had any objection to March 29 being granted to Oamaru. A list of new rules which had been passed at annual meetings since 1922. when the last book of rules were printed, were tabled. The council mthe secretary to print and forward to all clubs a copy of them.
