The board had !-aw announced that it was consider'■■si a motion t■ j request the Public Works Department to an order- •' -council, authorising it to remove i-5 tracks in Worcester street, and ftating that the council would assist t«e board if it wrote to the Minister fir Public Works explaining that the roadway was in bad order and expressing the hope that the issue of authority to the board to remove its tracks would be expedited. If the board removed its tracks it '.vss required by law to reinstate the road in its former condition, but. if the reconstruction of the roadway in permanent materials was contemplated bv the council, it v.-as considered that the board might co-operate with the to the extent of its liability. This matter was bein.u taken up with the board, and it was recommended •hat the Public Works Department be urged to expedite the issue of the cesired orc'-cr-in-council.

Colombo Street North The reconstruction of ColonVbo f!reet. from the Square to Armagh .-'.reel, in concrete and hot mix, had been 'provided for in the highways loan, but the work had been held up until the tram tracks were relaid. The md surface on this part of Colombo street was in fairly good condition, the principal reason for reconstruction being insufficient cross fall in certain sections and the unsatisfactory condition of the channels. In view of the 'ir.eertainty in the relaying of the tram lines, and the fair condition ol the roadway, it wr.s therefore proposed "o carry out the work suggested—kerbing and channelling—leaving the reconstruction of the road, apart from a slight building up of the shoulders, to be considered in the future. Colombo Street South Ti:c nir.o'j'H auiilnble in the 10 per. cuit. reading loan was estimated to ijl* sufT.cient to carry out the reconstruction of Columbo street south in c.ncrete ar.d bitumen from Brougham itreet to Soutliey street, and the relaying of the Tramway Board's tracks :n this area was now being carried '."j*. fay the board. This would still ieive the remaining section of Colombo :trcot, from Southey street to the Heathcote river, to be dealt with, and as this road was in bad condition, its reconstruction was considered urgent. The matter had been taken up with the Tramway Board, and it would appear that the board would carry on the relaying of its tracks to the Heathcole river urovidud that the council's read v.oi!: followed.
