♦ SCOTTISH SOCIETY ANNIVERSARY OF ROBERT BURNS (SPECIAL TO THE PRESS.) BLENHEIM, January 28. The Scottish Society held a popular entertainment at the Masonic Hall on Saturday evening to celebrate the one hundred and seventy-sixth anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns. The proceedings commenced with a short concert, the large audience . greatly appreciating the popular Scottish items, produced mostly by local . artists. Mr John Young welcomed the many visitors who had come from as far away as Motueka, Kaikoura, and Dunedin. The company then adjourned to the main hall, and Mr Young explained the meaning c* the "Address to the Haggis." The haggis, which was carried by Drum-Major Henderson, was piped in by Pipe--1 Major W. Glennie and Piper J. J. ' McFarlane, and with much pomp was ; placed before Mr Young, who made j the address. I A bagpipe duet was played while I everybody sat down to partake of the I dish. A special toast was proposed ! by the president to Mr D. Bishop, of Nelson, who is leaving for the North Island shortly. He was presented with a cheque in recognition of the services he had rendered the local society. Cricket The results of cricket matches played last week-end are as follows: Senior Grade—Wairau defeated ton on the first innings by 71 runs; Kiwi A defeated Kiwi B. gaining a ( four-point win; Marshlands defeated Awatere by 81 runs on the first innings. , r \ * Junior Grade—College defeated Wairau by 66 runs on the first innings; Celtic defeated Albion B by an innings and 41 runs; Marshlands defeated Spring Creek, gaining "a three-point win. Athletics Advice has been received by the Blenheim Amateur Athletic Club that the Mahar Cup meeting will definitely be held at Westport on March 16. Personal Mr J. Rollo Sharp, of Christchurch, arrived yesterday and will be staying in Blenheim for a few days. Mr W. Robertson, Under-Secretary for Lands, arrived on Saturday afternoon. He is especially interested ;n the inspection of a native land de\ eiopment scheme at Wairau Pa. He v/ul leave for Wellington to-morrow. A motor accident occurred oil Satuidav evening on Elevation Hiil. Mi \v. Mvles, of Picton, was driving a sedan car which skidded in loose gravel after pulling to the side ot the read to pass another car. The car rol ed ovei on its side in the middle ot the ioaci. M' - Myles received injuries to his right arm and was conveyed to the Picton hospital, where he : ' is progressing favourably. The other occupants of the car were unhurt.
