AVIATION NEWS

Mr D. E. Hopwood, of Christchurch, a member of the Canterbury Aero Club, passed the tests for a license as an aeroplane pilot yesterday. The tests were conducted by Flight Lieutenant H. B. Burrell, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr Hopwood was the seventy-ninth pilot trained by the club. Flight Lieutenant M. W. Buckley, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, flew from Christchurch to Wellington on Sunday to take mail to the Bay of Islands for the Duke of Gloucester. Mr E. G. Olson, instructor to the Otago Aero Club, flew from Dunedin with three passengers on Sunday and returned to Dunedin later with two passengers. Mr J. J. Busch. commercial pilot to the Canterbury Aero Club, went to the Selwyn Huts in the club's FoxMoth on Sunday and took several of the holiday-makers for short flights.
