RUGBY LEAGUE

EFFORTS FOR CONSOLIDATION An effort to place the game of Rugby League in New Zealand on a sounder footing is being made by the New Zealand Rugby League. The president, Mr C. A. Snedaen, of Auckland, and the secretary, Mr W. O. Carlaw, have been visiting the various league centres in the South Island to gather information for the next meeting of the council of the league. Mr Snedden was in Christchurch „ esterday. The consolidation of . the game had been considered for some time, Mr Snedden said in an interview, and it had been agreed that a certain amount of reorganisation was necessary. That did not mean that there would be drastic alterations in. the constitution of controlling bodies. He felt that the game was solidly established in Canterbury and on the West Coast, but the game had not progressed in Dunedin as well as it might have. Mr Snedden mentioned the possibility of visits to Canterbury and the West Coast of an Auckland and a Northland team, and visits to Christchurch of an Australian or a New South Wales team and a French team. There was talk of a French team visiting Australia and the council of the New Zealand Rugby League had invited it to come to New Zealand.
