BANKS PENINSULA POWER BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Banks Peninsula Electric Power Board was held at Little River. Present: Messrs C. E. Kay (chairman), J. V. Chapman, J. R. Thackcr, A. M. Helps, R. O. Bradley, and F. R. Davis. The chairman reported having attended the official opening of the Waitaki scheme, and said he had been much impressed with the magnitude of the works. Ample power was provided for the South Island for many years to come and it was up to power boards and all distributing authorities to leave no stone unturned to secure an increase in consumption. Arrangements had been made to canvass part of the district. A consumer wrote asking the board to remit the minimum charge on a dwelling which had been unoccupied for a period during the last winter. It was resolved that the board adhere to its regulation requiring notice to be given when disconnexion was desired. The Akaroa Progress Association wrote thanking the board for the assistance given during the recent shopping week. On the suggestion of Mr Thacker it was resolved that if possible arrangements be made to secure electrical exhibitions at the Little River and Duvauchelle shows. It was resolved that electricity be supplied free of charge of tents exhibiting electrical apparatus.

. It was decided to call tenders for the quarterly meter readings over the board's district, excluding the Akaroa Borough.

The financial statement showed a credit fff £431 in the board's loan account and a debit of £6B in the general account. Accounts totalling £1546 were passed for payment. The engineer reported that the additional connected load for the month was 11.457 k.w. A shipment of one hundred desapped ironbark poles had been landed direct at Akaroa, saving the board a considerable amount in freight charges.
