Hawkesbury river while they were attempting to struggle ashore after their launch had burst into flames. Bentley Mitchell, aged 14, lost his life in a gallant attempt to save his companion; Frederick Stevens, aged 13. The third occupant of the boat, Darcy Stevens, aged 18, a brother of Frederick Stevens, was saved.
