During the conference of associated art societies in Wellington, Mr R. Hipkins mentioned the effort that was being made by Napier peopie to provide an art gallery anci museum there. The matter arose, he said, out of an offer made by Lady McLean, who had promised to give the McLean collection of Maori art if an adequate building were provided. "So far there had been no appeal to the public," said Mr Hipkins, "but about £IOOO has been subscribed privately. The collection is a very valuable one, and would form an excellent UasL: of a permanent gallery.''
