_ * i The Kaiapoi Borough Council met; last night. Present: The Mayor, Mr ; W. H. A. Vickery, and Crs. A. E. Brown, C. M. Williams, J. Hirst, J. W. i Barnard, H. Rinaldi, J. D. Williams, E., Gray, and A. Linklater. i Mr J. W. Dawson (Opawa) wrote, applying to lease section 22 at "The'; Pines" beach. The application wasj granted. : The Mayor of Christchurch, Mr D.' G. Sullivan, M.P.. wrote about a resolu- I tion passed by the Christchurch City j Council, that (he Mayors of each city and borough in New Zealand be writtea to asking them favourably to consider the calling of meetings of citizens to urge upon the Government and the people as a whole the adoption of a more generous and humanitarian at-1 litude towards the unemployed. Crs. C. M. Williams, ,1. D. William;:, and Barnard were appointed a committee to arrange a meeting of citizens, to be held at 2.30 p.m. on Sunday nexi. Mr F. Thru-no wrote offering to soil j seven acres (30 perches of land situated j in Otaki sired to the council for the] borough housing scheme at £9O an j acre, with the crop on i(. or at £!>()/ an acre when the crop was harvested. The offer was referred to the council's | ( housing committee. j j It was agreed to accept the condi- < ! lions laid down by the certifying olli-1 jeer of the Kaiapoi Unemployment [ I Committee about (he rates of pay fori men employed on a water supply scheme at Kairaki. The financial statement showed receipts since last meeting £565 0s lid, j debit bank balance of £769 13s 9d, ac-1 counts passed for payment £478 17s sd. A discussion took place on the council's proposed housing scheme. Cr. Gray submitted the scheme should be for applicants for purchase only, and gave notice of motion that the council's previous resolution on the housing scheme being for optional rental or purchase be rescinded. It was resolved that the necessary authority be obtained to sell that portion of land between Fuller and Hilton I streets at present shown on the borough plan as a street
