CONTESTS AT TIMARU The triangular contests between teams from the Christchurch, Dunedin, and Timaru branches of the Young Men's Christian Association were continued yesterday. Timaru beat Christchurch at Rugby by 25 points to 8. An oration en "Patriotism is Not Enough," and the prepared speech, the subject of which was "That the Menace of the East is Real and Present," was judged by Mr A. E. Lawrence, who made the following awards:— Oration—Douglas Harte (Timaru), 83 points, 1, Harold Armstrong (Christchurch), 82 points, 2. Prepared Speech—Stanley Bell (Christchurch), 72 points, 1, Alex Rendall (Timaru), 71 points, 2. On aggregate points the speech contests were won by Timaru. the totals being Timaru 159 points, Christchurch 154 points. Dunedin did not compete. In the dcdge-ball competition, Timaru beat Christchurch by 2 games to 1. LADIES' AUXILIARY The monthly meeting of the ladiesauxiliary of the Young Men's Christian Association, was held in the association's rooms. Mrs S. Wilkinson presided. Arrangements were made to hold the first Sunday tea for the present year, on May 27. It was reported that the jumble sale which was held recently was most successful and the auxiliary's thanks were due to all who had assisted. The president reported that the renovations to the concert hall would shortly be completed. In response to a request received from the City Bands' Association, it was decided to assist with the street collection in June.
