The long raco had its effect from Woodend, and there were several changes and retirements. Coming through Kaiapoi the field was considerably strung out, Dreaver and Thomas having a good lead from their nearest attendants, and, continuing on, Dreavor left his mate, who was worried by cramp. Crossing the Styx bridge Dreaver rode on strongly to finish some distance ahead of Prosser, who was followed by Blythe, Kerr, Day, Thomas, Giles, O'Neill, Martyn, and Copping. Several others rode in two and threes after the severest test they have had to contend with this season. Special mention should be made, of A. Day and W. The course was from Papanui, through Belfast, Clarkville, Swannanoa, "West Eyreton, to Horrelville, Cust, Springbank, and Femside, finishing at the Plough Inn, Jiangiora. Stevens on scratch, conceding a start of 17 minutes to the limit men. The first seven milca was the only paved portion of the whole journey, nnd against the head wind all tho bunches were doing about tho same pace. Savage was pushing a big gear against the head wind, nnd was tiring. Nearing Fernsido, Milner left Savago and reached Rangiora 4(isec in front of Karaitiana, who rode into second place beating It. W. Richards by half a length. The back men arrived four minutes later and in tho sprint E. W. Stevens beat P. J. Groso by inches. The results were:— A. Milnor (17min), lhr 52min 42sec .. 1 K.
