TUBERCULOSIS INCREASING
It was mentioned at last week's meeting of the Southland Hospital Board that the incidence of tuberculosis was increasing in Southland. There were 19 names on the waiting list for the Waipiata Sanatorium, most of those on the list being males. The secretary advised that the Vincent board had granted the use of four shelters at the Clyde Hospital for the temporary accommodation of those on the waiting list. The erection of additional shelters at Waipiata was being held up through the formality of having to apply for the sanction of the Loans Board to borrow by way of overdraft. Later in the meeting (says the "Southland Times") the discussion on the disease was revived when a confidential report from the medical superintendent on tuberculosis among nurses was considered. The Mayor (Mr John Miller) made the remark that in general not enough attention was paid to ensuring that dairy herds ,wece Jcee from infection,
