Mr W. J. Walter, who has been a member of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the last 16 years, and who is again seeking re-election for the Avon-New Brighton sub-district, met a number of his supporters in the Mairehau Hall. Mr J. L. Parish presided. Mr J. Martin moved a vote of confidence in Mr Walter, which was agreed to. It was decided that those present form themselves into a committee to secure his return at the forthcoming election. Mr J. L. Parish was elected chairman of the committee, and Mr A. Moore secretary. Coffee beans are now being pressed into compact briquettes and' used for fuel in locomotives and factories in Brazil. There has been an. enormous oversupply of the beans this year. Hundreds of thousands of sacks were dumped into the sea before the idea of using the coffee as fuel was suggested. The dried bricks are said to provide ample heat for the boilers. A first-class British film should be able to make £30,000 in the United States of America alone, and then approximately another £30,000 in other overseas markets.
