Handsomely produced and illustrated, the latest number of the "City Beautiful," the official organ of the Canterbury Horticultural Society, contains much that is interesting and instructive, especially to those engaged in horticultural activities. Mr W. J. Humm contributes notes on gardening and among other articles on flowers, one on gladioli by Mr E. E. Wiltshire is particularly informative. Mr G. H. Holford, B.Sc, writes on hints for the improvement of lawns, and there are also two general articles, "By the Inland Sea, Japan," by Mr J. E. Strachan, and "Scenic Beauties in the Grey and Westland Counties," by "Wanderer." Considerable space is also given to the activities of the society.
