SLEEPY SICKNESS

SL'PI'OSED CASE IN CANTERBURY A supposed case of sleepy sickness in Christchurch is being investigated by the Department of Health. Notification was received by the Medical Officer of Health (Dr. T. Fletcher Telford) from a Christchurch doctor of the death of a patient from sleepy sickness. The patient had been under treatment since July 24, and death occurred on August 14, the notification being received two days later. A bacteriological examination is now being made to determine the cause of death.
