SWIMMING.

INTER-CLUB CARNIVAL. The Christchurch and Unit»d Swimming Club held its second carnival for thia Mason at tho Went Christchurch School baths, on Saturday afternoon. Entries were fairly good and eomo excellent racing with close linishes was seen. Thero was a> very poor attendance of spectators. Tho most important event on the programme, and the most interesting one, was the race for the Harris cup, a relay race for teams of five men each to swim 60 yards. The event was won by the holders o£ the trophy, East Christchurch, after a thrilling: race, in which the result was in doubt until the final touch. The time for the event was very good, tho average time for each Bwimmer in the winning team being a little less than 27 3-ssec. Several junior and intermediate championships were decided, and in one of them, the 50 yards intermediate girls' championship, Miss Rhoda Low, of tho Christchurch Ladies' Club, broke the record of 32 2-sseo established bv Miss S. Campbell in 1&31, by three-fifths of a second, •covering the distance in 81 8-sscc. It is understood, however, that this timo cannot bo accepted as a record, since it was stated that there was only one timekeeper for the race. AUSTRALIAN EVENTS. (Received February 5, 7 p.m.) PERTH, February I. The 100 yds Australian swimming championship was won by Godfrey Vockler (Victoria), in 2min 21 3-ssec. Noel Ryan (New South Wales) was second. Won by a yard. The women's half-mile championship was won easily by Edna Davey (New South Wales), in 12min 12 4-Ssec.
