N.Z. TROTTING ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF THE BOARD. At the meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association held last night, there were present: Messrs J. H. Williams (chairman), J. R. McKenzie, S. W. Kelly, B. P. McCarthy, H. W. Kitchingham, W. E. Hayward, and J. B. Thomson. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs T. J. W. Buxton and J. M.. Samson. Correspondence. The Waikato Trotting Club advised that the Judicial Committee of the Club had enquired into the running of the Improvers' Handicap. The stipendiary steward, Mr Commons, protested against Indolent being given a place on account of breaking. The Club unanimously decided that, the horse be distanced. The stipendiary steward, MiCommons, had also asked the stewards to consider the question of Nell Volo's breaking at the last furlong in the same race. Finding that if the mare had not broken she would have trotted into second place, the stewards decided to pay out on Nell Volo and Manna's Son. The action of the club was endorsed. The applications received from Messrs Morrcll Bros. (Queensland) and J. Guy to have the embargo on their respective horses, Lord Nepean and Great Author, lifted, was granted under Rule 377. An enquiry was held into an accident in the Bowhill Handicap, in which Author Wood, Betty Wrack, and others fell, wrote the New Brighton Trotting Club. In view of the evidence, R. Donald was charged with careless driving and interfering with Hard AVords and Author Wood. Donald had been fined £5. It was decided that a severe caution be administered to Donald. The action of the club was endorsed. A letter was received from the Wairarapa Trotting. Club, regarding the running of Hue Coronado. It was decided to hold the matter over for further information. A letter from the Auckland Trotting Club was received regarding an enquiry held into the running of Realty, driven by E. S. Groat, in the Akarana Handicap. Groat had been charged by the stipendiary steward with' interference. The action of the club in fining Groat £5 wits endorsed. The same club wrote slating that F. Holmes, driver of Rey Direct, had been fined £2, under Rule 352, for starting from his wrong barrier position in the December Handicap. The action of the club was endorsed.

F. Holmes applied for a Tefund of the fine of £2. In his letter he stated that while waiting for the signal to start two or three horses on the front rank were playing up. Ho had drawn the second row, but seeing an opportunity of getting away without interference by these horses, ha went into the front row, as there was room for two or three more horses there. 8n far as he knew he was not reported by the starter or any official, and the first lie knew about it war when the stipendiary steward informed him that ho was fined £2 for starting from the wrong mark. Be was not asked for any explanation.. He felt the penalty in the circumstances was harsh, and so his application for remission was prompted. It was decided that no action be taken, and that, the secretary, of the club should write to Holmes pointing out that be had not exercised his, privilege to appeal under Rule 353, and that accordingly there was no further course open. Penalty Increased. The Canterbury Park ..Trotting Club advised that a caution had been issued to T. H. Xewton, driver of Pageant d'Or, at its recent meeting, for undue use of his whip. The case was considered serious, and on the evidence of the stipendiary steward was decided that the action of the club, be endorsed, and in addition to the caution , administered by the elub) Newton be fined the sum of £5. The Thnaru Trotting Club reported the protest lodged by W. J. Doyle i against Craganour for interference in the Salisbury Handicap at its recent Meeting. After having heard the evidence, the Judicial Committee decided; that the platings bo not altered; further, from their own observations of the race, Edwards crossed over too quickly, but such interference in their opinion did not affect the result, of the race. For this offence Edwards had been fined £5 under Rule 352 A. .Tho action of the club was endorsed. Appeal Dismissed. At the previous meeting of the Board an appeal was lodged by F. G. Holmes against the penalty imposed upon him by the Metropolitan Trotting Club for alleged interference in the J\ew Zealand Derby. It was then decided to refer the matter back to the club. Further evidence from the club was received last night, and it was decided that the action of the club be endorsed and the appeal dismissed. Deaths of Horses. The deaths of the following horses were notified:—August Pointer, Big Bill, Bonista, Bonny Wrack, Gold Queen, Lady Eenctta, McKcnzic Girl, Proud Logan, Schoolgirl. Licenses Granted. Conditional horsemen's licenses: were granted to the following:—J, T. Andrews, W» J. Broughan, A. Esler, H. L. George, C. J. Harcourt, W. A. Howell, 0. G. Lynda, C. Marsh, E. J. Marshall, E. McCarthy, K. C. McCormiek, F. L. Porter, K. T. Wroblenski. A conditional trainer's license ' was granted to R. J. Marshall. Riders' licenses only were granted to J. T. Andrews, C. Marsh, and S. G. Pelling,
