Tho Kapiti is to load here to-day for Wanganui- direct. Tho Orepuki should arrive here to-morrow from Timaru and is" to sail in the afternoon for Wellington and Wanganui. The Awahou should arrive at Lyttelton on Sunday from the north. She will take in cargo aero on Monday for Waikokopu, Tolaga Bay, and Tokomaru Bay.

The Tees is to arrivo here on Monday from Waitangi, Chatham Islands. She Trill lay up until next month, and is to leave again for the islands on January 7th. Tho Gale is to load here to-morrow Cor Bluff, Dunedin, and Timaru. The Waihemo is due here to-morrow from Los Angeles, via Auckland, Napier, and Wellington. After discharging sho will load for Melbourne and Sydney. The Poolta is now duo at Lyttelton on Friday next from Timaru to load for Napier and Gisborne. She will sail via Wellington. The Opihi is to arrive here on Wednesday from .Timaru to take in cargo for Nelson and New Plymouth. Sho is to sail via Wellington. The Waipiata is expected at Lyttelton on Tuesday from Auckland, Portland, and Wellington. Sho is to sail the same day tor Dunedin and Bluff. Tha Kini is to arrivo here on Sunday from Westport. She is to discharge coal on Monday and proceeds to Oamaru, Dunedin, and Bluff. The Astoria is expected to arrive at Lyttelton on Wednesday from Nauru with a full cargo of phosphates. The Moa is due at Lyttelton to-day from Wellington with motor-spirits. The Union Company has received advice that tho Kanna left Newcastle at 7 p.m. on Monday for Wellington, . She is due there next Sunday. Advice has been received that tho Union Company's Marama, from Wellington, reached Sydney at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. She left Sydney yesterday for Auckland, whero she is due next Monday morning. The Huddart-Parker steamer Zealandia from Auckland, reached Sydney at 0 a.m. on Tuesday. SHIPS IN BALLAST. Now that the export season in coining into full swing, large overseas vessels aro again beginning to leave England in ballast for New Zealand to load Homewards, says the "Dominion." The Federal steamer Huntingdon, which arrived at Wellington on November 29th, was the first of these, and was making her fourth consecutive trip to New Zealand in ballast, while a further six, the Northumberland, Port Sydney, Waimana, Tairoa, Cumberland, and Maimoa, aro at present en route to New Zealand, Altogether over fifty vessels are duo in New Zealand between now and next April to load Homewards, while many more will discharge English cargo in Australia, and then come to New Zealand »o load. For many years past a number of vessels have arrived in New Zealand in ballast during the flush of the export season. For the last two seasons they have greatly increased in number owing to the huge falling-off in imports) and last year between fifty and sixty ships arrived in ballast, about treble the number of those arriving (the previous year, when the figures also were considerably in excess of those of earlier years.
