MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

THURSDAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) LICENSEE CHARGED. William Angus, licensee of Coker's Hotel, was charged with Belling liquor to an intoxicated person and Donald John Bam, being a person other than the licensee, ww similarly charged. Sub-Inspector Edwards said that Sergeant Hodgins had seen two men in the street, one drunk and one sober. Instead of going home they had gone into Coker's Hotel and been served. The licensee' had not been present at the time, but was liable under the Act. Angus was fined £1 and costs and Bain £3 and costs. OBSCENE LANGUAGE, Mary Clcary, alias Polly Walsh, a domestic, aged 58, pleaded guilty to a charge.of using obscene language in a public- place. Sub-Inspector G. B. Edwards said that the accused had a" long list. Accused was placed on probation for a period of 12 months and ordered to take out a- prohibition order against herself. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. . A domestic, aged W, of Wellington (Mr C. S. Thomas), was charged with being drunk, incurring credit for 2s 6d for taxi hire by fraud, and attempting to commit suicide. A plea of guilty was entered to the drunkenness charge and of not guilty to the other charges. Mr Thomas eaid that the facts were admitted, but he submitted that the accused was in such a condition that she- had no knowledge of what she was doing and therefore could not be eaid to have tha necessary The" charge of incurring credit by ***«<! was dismissed. Accused was convicted and fined 10a, in default 24 hours' imprisonment with hard labour, on the drunkenness charge. On the charge of attempting to commit suicide accused was convicted and placed on probation for a period of 12 months. A condition of probation was that accused take out a prohibition order. An order for the euppression of accused 8 name was made. TRAFFIC BREACHES. Erio Collie, £lO. H W. Jacobs was ordered to pay B. and E Tingey and Co., Ltd., the sum of Sl6 forthwith, in default 18 days' imprisonment. CLAIM FOR SERVICES. William Paul Clarkson, liquidator of Farrier and Walker, Ltd. (Mr P. P. J. Amodeo), claimed from Thomas Pheloung, of Chnstchurch. contractor (Mr C. S. Thomas), the sum of £146 6s 9d, being the balance allegedly owing by the defendant or work done and petrol and goods supplied. The dispute centred mainly on tie amount it was agreed to pay for plaintiff's services per clay and whether there had been an aereement to purchase a concrete-mixer. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £35, in addition to the amount paid into Court (£l7 19s 3d), and costs.
